ChatGPT had over 1 million trial users within a week of its launch. This is the product of an artificial intelligence company co-founded by billionaire Elon Musk.
Artificial intelligence (AI) in emerging technologies is advancing rapidly. OpenAI has just introduced its latest product, ChatGPT chatbot, to the public for testing from November 30. Chatbot is software designed to chat with people based on the data that the user gives.
Sam Altman, co-founder and CEO of OpenAI, shared, within a week, more than 1 million people have used ChatGPT.
Who owns ChatGPT?
The OpenAI research and development company was founded in 2015 by two investors Sam Altman and billionaire Elon Musk, operating for non-profit purposes. OpenAI also raised capital from other names such as venture capitalist Peter Thiel. In 2019, the company established another legal entity to do business.
Musk left the OpenAI Board of Directors in 2018. He praised the ChatGPT phenomenon as “scary good”. However, he paused OpenAI’s access to the Twitter database after learning that OpenAI used it to “train” the tool.
How does ChatGPT work?
According to OpenAI, the ChatGPT model is trained using a machine learning technique called Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF). The company claims that ChatGPT can simulate conversations, answer questions, recognize defects, challenge incorrect axioms, and reject unreasonable requests.
Initially, human AI trainers will feed the model with conversations, in which they play both roles – the user and the AI assistant. The currently experimental version of the botchat tries to understand the questions posed by the user and responds with in-depth human-like answers in a conversational format.
What can ChatGPT be used for?
ChatGPT can be used in real-life applications such as digital marketing, online content creation, answering customer questions, and even helping to find bugs in code.
The bot responds to a wide variety of questions while mimicking human styles.
Is there a problem with ChatGPT or not?
Like many other AI solutions, ChatGPT is not perfect. OpenAI acknowledges the tendency to respond with answers that sound reasonable but are inaccurate or meaningless. The company is working on a fix.
AI can also discriminate based on face, gender, culture. Big companies like Google and Amazon all face this problem when testing AI. At some companies, humans have to intervene and correct the flaws of the AI.
Despite many anxieties, AI research maintains its traction. Venture capital investment in businesses that develop and operate AI grew to nearly $13 billion last year. As of October 2022, $6 billion has been poured in, according to data from PitchBook.
